What is heard underneath.

Tone, silence, and the rhythm something carries. Sound is one of the ways I listen, remember, and make sense of what is happening within me.

A way of listening

Before words, there is rhythm. Before meaning, there is tone. Sound reaches the body before the mind can name it — a low hum in the chest, a silence that clarifies, a beat that moves something loose.

For me, sound has always been a way of knowing. When I play, I am not performing. I am listening for what is underneath — the current beneath the noise, the tempo a room is actually holding, the moment something shifts. The set is a conversation with what is already there.

What I trust about sound is that it is honest. You can dress it up, but you cannot fake the feeling. Either it moves you, or it doesn't. That is the practice — staying close enough to the real thing that it can move through you.

Some things are better experienced than explained.
